2013 WordCamp Reno Recap

mtshirtspotted atRenoWordCampLast weekend, I had the opportunity to present my talk on Twenty Thirteen and Child Themes to the WordPress Community of Reno, Nevada. One of the speakers and long time Media Temple fan, Russell Aaron, even sported his (mt) T-shirt. The slides from my presentation may be found below:

OCWP General Meetup

On Monday, OCWP had their general WordPress meetup. Steve Zehngut provided some very useful information on using the Chrome Developer Tools. Michael “Shredder” Schroder of Dreamhost spoke on his contribution work with WordPress 3.6, set to be released any day now. Shredder talked about the new enhancements in autosave which will now save a copy of blog posts that you are working on to your local computer in case connection is lost with your web server. Also, he mentioned that there were some nifty improvements with post locking, to ensure that only one person has control of editing the post so that changes will not accidentally be overwritten by someone else. As usual, the Meetup was recorded by Jason Tucker and maybe found below:

Hollywood WordPress

hollywood-winner-louieWednesday was the very first Meetup for Hollywood WordPress, run by Greg Douglas. Greg had asked me to speak a while ago, so I created a new talk just for this meetup. To commemorate the first meetup, I got the help of our Marketing department and we put together 10 (mt) swag bags to give out along with a certificate for 1 year of free (gs) Grid-Service Hosting. Louie was our winner and he was ecstatic! He was looking for a new hosting company for his business, so now he will get to try us out for a year. The (mt) swag bags were a hit and everyone had a great time at the first meetup! My new deck may be found below:

Coming Up Next

ie-logoThis coming Tuesday, I will be speaking at Inland Empire’s WordPress Meetup. Verious Benjamin Smith III, the organizer, asked me to speak on Jetpack and Edit Flow, so I will be creating a new updated presentation for my first visit to the friendly folks at this Corona Meetup. I’m definitely looking forward to it!
